What is Arm Lift Surgery?
The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Reston, VA is pleased to offer arm lift surgery to patients in Northern Virginia. Our plastic surgeons are dedicated to providing each of our patients with individualized service and look forward to helping them achieve their cosmetic goals. We understand it can be frustrating to work out for hours every week in the gym and not be able to slim down or tone hard-to-reach areas like the upper arms. Arm Lift Reviews
"I had cankle , and arm surgery on Wednesday April 24,2019 done by Dr Sigal. He is the best!!!! He really cares for his patients and really listens to what they want done n adds his own professionalism to it all. I don't know what everything looks like yet but I still have the compression body stocking on. But I can tell those areas are smaller than they were. I have a lot of swelling, oozing n some pain which is totally normal and the meds take care of it nicely, at this stage. Emily was my patient coordinator, and like I told her she's a new friend now. The sweet and funny lady Jill, helped me so much as she put the IV in she had me laughing so much I didn't even feel it (and that's one thing I get petrified about)she's good at what she does! Then there's the overnight nurse, Kara RN she's the one that took care of me. She was on time for anything I needed! You couldn't of asked for anymore from her she just knew everything you needed almost before you knew. Then there's Madeline, she's an RN also she took the before pics. She was so wonderful and would remind me lol f everything I needed to do; lovely person.I hope I haven't left anyone out that was involved with my surgery.... Everyone there all deserve a high 5star rating they are just so nice n all are beautiful!!! Thank you. I'll post more when I've healed more.... until then.... Debbie R.thank you thank you Dr Sigal!!!!"- D.R. / Yelp / Apr 26, 2019
"Be Treated Like A Star - It was a wonderful experience. The doctors and staff were friendly, caring and honest. Their expertise was evident even before I saw the amazing results. The post-op treatment was even more than I expected and they never made me feel like a “number”. I had researched three other cosmetic practices and I am 100% confident that I chose the right one!!"- R. / RealSelf / Jan 21, 2020

"Austin Weston in Reston, Va is the Bomb - Let me start by saying that from my tummy tuck and lipo to flanks and abs in August, 2020, arm lift in November, 2020 to my final procedure my thigh lift in March, 2021 everything went according to plan. I had limited pain with my tummy tuck for a few days, arm lift was just more of a nuisance as you don’t have full mobility and the thigh lift was essentially painless. Yes, you will be sore but not in pain. I highly recommend Dr. Sigal at the Austin Weston in Reston, Virginia. I haven’t looked this nice since I was 18 and I’m now 53. Everyone at Austin Westin are superb from doctors, nurses, front desk to Coordinator!"- I. / RealSelf / Mar 17, 2021
"Preventative Maintenance - I've been going to AWC, Dr. S. for 10+ years...he did my tummy tuck, liposuction and I continue to see him every 9 to 12 months for a facial refresh (Botox and filler). Most recently - I had an arm lift. My arms turned out fantastic!!! Dr. S is absolutely fabulous...he's an artist!! He is my Michelangelo!!!A loyal and very happy client!"- P. / RealSelf / Jun 21, 2021
Am I a Candidate for Arm Lift Surgery?
While weight loss can cause sagging skin to appear on the arms, some loose arm skin can also be a result of genetics. This makes it very difficult to tone the upper arm to an individual’s desire. When diet and exercise fail to tone the upper arm, an arm lift can create outstanding results. Ideal candidates for an arm lift exhibit:
- Loose, sagging arm skin (bat wings) that is present after weight loss or aging
- Excess arm fat that may result in loose skin after liposuction alone
For patients with hanging skin and large fatty deposits, a staged procedure is sometimes recommended. This consists of a first surgery which is liposuction of the entire arm, and then a healing period of several months to allow the swelling to reside. After the first surgery, the arm is more deflated with excess skin. The second surgery is then performed to remove the extra arm skin and give an ultimately tighter result than a single operation could achieve.
How is Arm Lift Surgery Performed?
Arm lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia, and the arm lift incision typically runs from the elbow to the armpit area. This allows extra skin on the upper arm to be removed and a scar to be placed from armpit to elbow. The scar can be longer or shorter depending on the amount of excess skin and any other procedures you may also desire at the same time. Arm lift scars may be tapered into a breast lift or breast reduction to help remove stubborn armpit fat at the same time.
This surgery takes about two hours and there is usually no need for an overnight stay unless the patient desires it or if the patient is having multiple other procedures. Patients should be prepared for temporary swelling and bruising after the surgery. To promote healthy healing and blood circulation, the arms should be kept elevated. Patients can usually return to normal activities in about 3 – 4 weeks. Final results are seen at 3 – 4 months.
What Results Can I Expect from Arm Lift Surgery?
For best results, an arm lift may require liposuction of the fat deposits within the upper arm to make the final look slim and trim. During your consultation, one of our Northern Virginia plastic surgeons will discuss the best course of action given your skin health and condition. Keep in mind that arm stretch marks are often removed along with the extra skin, but if weight is regained, it could damage the treated area. An arm lift gives patients the opportunity to have more defined arms for years to come. As long as your weight is kept stable, your arm should age along with the rest of your body to maintain a shapely result.

Arm Lift FAQ
How much does arm lift surgery cost?
Your cost for an arm lift will depend on several factors. Before we can determine your costs, one of our experienced plastic surgeons will start with a consultation to understand your wants and goals. Following this, they can develop your surgical plan and break down your costs. In order to make it easier to select a skilled plastic surgeon like our team members at Austin-Weston, The Center For Cosmetic Surgery, and get the results you want, we accept several payment methods. We will also give you information on low-interest medical financing.
Can I combine an arm lift with other surgeries?
It is normal for arm lift patients to create a custom treatment plan with another surgery. This is sometimes called an upper body lift and may combine liposuction, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), or breast surgery (breast lift). An arm lift is also frequently performed as part of an after weight loss surgery for those who have lost a significant amount of weight and want contouring throughout their body. During your initial consultation with your surgeon, other surgeries can be talked about — so your custom surgical plan matches all your needs and goals.
Will there be scars?
An arm lift uses incisions in order to remove excess skin, which leads to scarring from stitches. However, your surgeon will make every effort to ensure that your incisions are small and placed in inconspicuous areas. Following your arm lift, topical ointments that help with healing will be recommended, along with other tips for scar care management. Our team also suggests limiting sun exposure during the first year to protect the scar from becoming discolored. Most patients believe the benefits of an arm lift are worth the minimal scars created.
What results can I expect from an arm lift?
An arm lift is used to remove hanging skin and small amounts of fat. You should follow a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a balanced diet in order to avoid a dramatic change in your weight, which might affect your results. After your lift surgery, once your arms are fully healed, and your surgeon has given permission, you should start strength training. This is a great way to add shape to your arms by strengthening and toning the muscles.
Are there nonsurgical treatments to improve my arms?
While there are several nonsurgical skin tightening options, most can only provide small improvements. To remove moderate to severe skin laxity, a surgical arm lift is your best choice. In addition to treating excess skin, your surgeon will also use liposuction on small pockets of fat and smoothes the remaining skin and tissue. If you're interested in learning about nonsurgical procedures, your surgeon can talk about all possible treatments during your consultation and help you choose which is best for your goals.
