What are the Benefits of Injectable Fillers?

Plastic surgery is not always ideal for everyone. It can be expensive, time-consuming, and sometimes even risky. Injectable dermal fillers provide people with a viable alternative to going under the knife. The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery offers many kinds of dermal fillers to achieve custom results that look and feel great. Our fillers plump lips, fill in fine lines and wrinkles, augment the cheekbones, and even improve the appearance of scars. Read about the types of dermal fillers we offer below and see which one is best for your needs.

Types of Fillers

Our injectable fillers provide amazing results but they are all different and offer varying outcomes. Cosmetic fillers are temporary and if patients want to maintain optimal results, multiple treatments will be necessary. Some fillers like hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are also reversible and can be dissolved. Below are some of the injectable fillers we offer at Austin-Weston:

Juvéderm XC: An HA gel that is FDA-approved, Juvéderm is recommended for correcting moderate to severe facial wrinkles, deep frown lines, and folds around the nose and mouth. Results usually last 6 – 9 months. It is used throughout the face including the lips.

Juvéderm Ultra Plus: An HA filler that also contains lidocaine. This option is slightly more plumping that XC and can last longer than 9 months. It is used in similar areas of the face.

Juvéderm Voluma: This HA filler treats age-related volume loss in the mid-face, providing a smooth, natural-looking lift and restoring a youthful contour to the cheek area. Results have been known to last up to two years. This product is typically used along the bony areas of the face like the cheek bones.

Volbella: The first FDA-approved filler proven to increase lip fullness and soften the appearance of vertical lip lines for up to one year with optimal treatment. We also use this filler in other areas of the face including under the eyes in the 'tear troughs.'

Vollure: Another HA gel filler in the Juvéderm family for the treatment of laugh and marionette lines with results lasting up to 18 months.

Radiesse: An FDA-approved synthetic dermal filler that reduces wrinkles by stimulating the body to produce new collagen. Unlike other dermal fillers, Radiesse also stimulates your body to produce new collagen, so you’ll continue to look more youthful and attractive over time. This filler is not an HA and thus not reversible.

Restylane Lyft: This HA filler is used to augment cheeks for a more full cheekbone area that lifts the lower face.

Restylane Defyne and Refyne: These fillers are used around the mouth to erase lines. These are HA fillers.

Belotero: Specifically designed to integrate into your skin and mold to your distinct facial contours. By adapting to the individuality of your skin, it softens lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth for a smooth look that is uniquely you. Results last for 4 – 6 months and this is a reversible agent.

Bellafill: A dermal filler that is used to address nasolabial folders or smile lines. Bellafill offers long-lasting results that have been known to last up to five years. For long-lasting results, the filler must be injected in 4-5 concurrent sessions and it is not reversible.

Kybella: While not a filler, Kybella is an injectible used to melt fat beneath the chin. This is usually done in several sessions spaced out by 4-6 weeks.

What to Expect

Cosmetic injectables, or dermal fillers, are injected just under the surface of the skin to achieve natural-looking results. During your initial consultation, one of our practitioners will have you make a series of facial expressions to determine the points of injection. Your results will vary depending on the type of injectable you receive. However, the most common side effects are mild redness and/or swelling. Bruising is also possible on a case by case basis.

Injectable Fillers FAQ

How much do injectable fillers cost?
Costs for an injectable filler treatment will vary depending on the brand used and how much is needed. In your consultation, your injector will develop a treatment plan that matches your concerns and goals. After this, your injector will also provide you with an estimated cost and discuss any specials we have.

How do I know which injectable filler is right for me?
The injectable filler used for your treatment will depend on the area being treated and your desired outcome. Depending on whether you want to reduce the appearance of wrinkles or are wanting to get plumper lips, we will listen to your goals before recommending the best filler for optimal results. With so many dermal fillers available, it can be difficult to decide which is ideal for you, which is why our team of aesthetic professionals helps to ensure you experience a natural-looking, rejuvenated look.

What is the difference between wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers?
A wrinkle relaxer, like BOTOX®, treats fine lines and wrinkles (particularly in the forehead and around the eyes) by limiting the movement of the underlying muscles. Injectable fillers restore volume to the face in order to fill in fine lines, wrinkles, and some scars. Injectable fillers may also be used to add more volume to your cheeks and lips plus to reduce the appearance of aging on the hands.

How long will the results last?
The longevity of your results will be dependent on what brand(s) is used and what area was treated. For some patients, improvements may be visible up to a year, whereas others might need another treatment after a few months. Touch-up injections can be scheduled at our practice in order to sustain your improvements.

What areas of my face can be treated with dermal fillers?
Wrinkle fillers can improve signs of aging by either smoothing static lines or adding volume. Fillers can be injected into mild to moderate parentheses, marionette, and corner lines around your mouth and nose. Also, they can restore volume to your cheeks and lips.
