Contact UsWhat is breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a very personal decision. Choosing the right size implant is something we pride ourselves on. Some women may desire a more dramatic result while others may simply desire a slight enhancement or a return to pre-pregnancy size. Regardless of your reasoning, the plastic surgeons at Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Reston, VA can help you choose the cosmetic breast augmentation procedure that best fits your lifestyle and goals. We do hundreds of breast implant operations each year. During your initial consult, our plastic surgeons can also discuss the differences between silicone and saline implants and help you determine which is best for you. An autologous approach for breast enhancement, known as a fat transfer to the breasts, is also an option and can be discussed during your consultation.
During a fat transfer to the breast, fat is taken from one area of the body, such as the abdomen or thighs, using liposuction and is then purified and injected into the breasts for augmentation and shape enhancement. This technique is becoming very popular because it is a holistic approach to breast augmentation. Since it uses the patient’s own fat, there is no concern for rejection.
We offer a variety of breast augmentation methods and techniques to suit the needs of our diverse clientele. Call our Reston, VA cosmetic surgery practice to learn more.

how does breast augmentation work?
Before you have breast augmentation surgery, there are several things your plastic surgeon will want to discuss with you to make sure you get the result you want. During your consultation, your surgeon will discuss the different types of silicone and saline breast implants, incision types, discuss the 'look' you desire, and examine your existing native breast tissue, breast shape, skin elasticity, and pectoralis muscle. Measurements will be taken of the breasts and the chest wall, including base width, to help determine the best implant type.
Once your surgeon has recommended a size range, you will get the chance to try on the implants in a bra and then look in the mirror to see which size you like best. For many patients considering breast augmentation, VECTRA imaging can be done to digitally show you what breast implants will look like on your frame. VECTRA is a special camera that takes a picture of your breasts and creates a 3-D rendition of your body so different size breast implants can be placed virtually and you can see how the different sizes will look on your frame.
This evaluation will help our team develop an ideal breast augmentation plan for your individual desires. We carry every brand, style, and shape of breast implants at Austin-Weston and can recommend one that best fits your goals. Brands we carry include Allergan breast implants, and Sientra breast implants.
how long is recovery from breast augmentation?
After surgery, patients can expect to feel sore so they will be given post-surgical care instructions and pain medication to be comfortable. Most patients take off work for up to a week, and bruising and swelling resolves around 1 – 2 weeks. It is recommended for patients to take it easy for the first week to heal and rebuild strength after surgery. The implants typically drop and take shape in the first several weeks, though there is some variability based on the tightness of skin envelope, pectoralis muscle bulk and implant size chosen. Patients can resume full pectoralis exercises by 6 weeks and final photographs are taken at 3 months. Optimal results will reveal a beautiful, natural contour.

Breast Augmentation FAQs
Do I need a breast lift or augmentation?
Your plan may include implants, a lift, or both. A breast lift removes excess skin and improves the breasts, while implants address the size and shape of the breasts. In your consultation with one of our cosmetic surgeons, they will listen to your needs and goals before explaining your best treatment options. A combination of augmentation and lift is typically part of a mommy makeover to revitalize the breasts after breastfeeding and pregnancy.
Can I breastfeed with implants?
If you might want to breastfeed after breast augmentation, be sure to tell an Austin-Weston surgeon during your consultation. It's usually possible to breastfeed after implants with the right surgical technique and placement. Pregnancy and breastfeeding can alter your results, so it is better to wait until after you have children to have breast surgery.
Can I have my implants removed?
You may decide that you would like to replace or remove your implants. If this happens, your Austin-Weston surgeon can perform breast revision surgery. During the revision surgery, your current implants will be either replaced with different implants or simply removed. If you want to have your implants removed, you may need to have excess skin removed since larger implants can stretch your skin. If you have any questions or concerns after your breast augmentation surgery, schedule a consultation at Auston-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery to learn more about your options.
