50 Procedures ( View All )

The board-certified plastic surgeons at Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery understand the importance that skill and artistry play in plastic surgery. This is especially the case for individuals who are transitioning to look physically different than the body they were born with. For example, the male body tends to have a narrow waist and hips, plus less fat in the lower body. In addition, their chests are flatter and hold firmer muscle tissue than the soft tissue found in women.

For men desiring to look more feminine, body contouring surgery using implants or autologous fat transfers can help add fullness and volume to the breasts, hips, and buttocks. In the initial consultation, we will ask the right questions to get a thorough understanding about the type of body shape you desire as well as your overall goals. A unique body contouring surgery plan for a more feminine appearance will be created. Top surgery is one of our more specialized procedures that can transform the chest of a male to look more feminine. An autologous fat transfer can be performed if there is enough excess fat on the body, which takes fat from one area and places it into a different area for a more defined contour. Implants are also a great alternative for a lasting effect.

Surgical Technique

For body contouring using fat transfer, the surgeon will first use liposuction to remove fat from the patient (typically in the abdomen and arms), which will be filtered and purified. Once the fat is prepared, the plastic surgeon will carefully inject the fat into the breasts, hips, and/or buttocks to achieve the patient’s desired fullness and projection. The surgeon will typically overfill the area to account for the fat that will be reabsorbed by the body during recovery. For body contouring with implants, the plastic surgeon will choose silicone implants that will meet the patient’s goals and securely place them in the desired area for the most natural appearance.

During/After Surgery

Body contouring surgery, whether the surgeon is using a fat transfer or implants, is usually outpatient and performed with the patient under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility. After the surgery, the treated areas will be bandaged and put into compression garments to encourage blood flow. The patient is usually able to return home after the procedure to recover with aftercare instructions and tips from the plastic surgeon. Patients should schedule and attend any recommended follow-up appointments so the plastic surgeon can assess their healing and results.

MTF Body Contouring FAQs

Feminine Body Shapes?

Every female body is unique, but most women generally fall into one of four classic body shapes: pear, banana, apple, and hourglass. The pear-shaped body carries more weight in the highs, butt, and thighs compared to the bust. The banana shape, which is the most common, has a fairly equal distribution of fat between the bust, waist, hips, butt, and thighs. The apple-shaped body has wider shoulders, a larger bust, a larger waist that is less defined, and thinner hips, butt, and thighs. The hourglass shape, which is considered usually considered the ideal female shape, has a narrow, well-defined waist and fat is equally distributed between the bust and lower body.

Fat Transfer?

If the patient has enough excess body fat, an autologous fat transfer will usually produce the most natural-looking results. Fat transfer has the added benefit of removing fat from unwanted areas to further slim and improve the body contour. A fat transfer that adds volume to the buttocks is more commonly known as a Brazilian butt lift.

Silicone Body Implants?

For patients who have a low body fat percentage, the body shape can still be changed through silicone implants. The plastic surgeon will help the patient pick out the shape and size of the implant before the surgery based on the patient’s current body and cosmetic goals.

Waist-to-Hip Ratio?

The waist-to-hip ratio is calculated by dividing the measurement of the waist in inches by the measurement of the hips in inches. Researchers have discovered that women who are considered more attractive have a 0.7 ratio, while males who are considered attractive have a 0.9 ratio. Patients should maintain realistic goals and expectations for their body contouring surgery since their current body shape may limit what the plastic surgeon can accomplish.
