About Chin Augmentation
If you have inherited a small or retrusive chin and would like a more defined facial profile, chin augmentation may be a good option. As we age and fat deposits begin to accumulate in and around the chin and neck area, we can lose that photogenic profile we once enjoyed. A weak or under defined chin can accentuate the nose and make it appear larger than its actual size. Chin augmentation can contour the chin to a more desirable shape with implants. Typically, this procedure is combined with some targeted liposuction of the neck or a mini facelift procedure. Visit or call Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery, in Reston, VA to set up a consult with one of our plastic surgeons to learn more.

Chin Augmentation Reviews
"This place is fantastic! Dr. Poindexter is not only awesome, but will not perform a procedure that is not necessary. He is honest, caring, and a real professional. I started seeing Dr. Poindexter over 15 years ago for my second chin augmentation. The first one was performed by a very conservative plastic surgeon. While the original outcome was good, it was not exactly what I had in mind. Dr. Poindexter replaced my implant and tightened my neck muscle. I have been extremely pleased and have had several procedures since. I have, and will continue to see, Dr. Poindexter and refer patients to him. The entire staff-from the front desk to the nurses-are friendly, professional and caring. I highly recommend Austin-Westin."- J.V. / Yelp / Dec 08, 2016
What to Expect
You will be under general anesthesia during chin augmentation surgery, which is performed as an outpatient procedure at our accredited surgical facility. Your plastic surgeon will make a small incision under the chin to insert the implant. Most implants are made of some form of silicone and have a rubbery feel that is very similar to the natural chin area. The implants come in a variety of sizes, and your surgeon will help you choose the right one for you.
Via the submental incision, removal of neck fat can also be accomplished if necessary. For some patients, the incision is placed inside the mouth instead of under the chin. The surgery generally takes around one hour.
Right after chin augmentation surgery, a dressing will be applied to the chin where it should remain for 3 – 4 days. Patients can expect some pain, tenderness, and swelling. Some patients may experience a tight, stretched sensation following surgery. These symptoms usually go away in about one week. It is also typical to have some numbness after chin augmentation that can take several weeks or occasionally months to resolve. After the swelling subsides, patients will be able to see the early results of their surgery. Most patients take off work one week for the operation.

define your profile
A short or weak chin not only makes your profile look weak, it can also make your nose appear to be large and disproportionate. While some patients think they need a nose job, they may only need chin augmentation surgery to achieve full facial harmony and symmetry. It is also common to combine both procedures.
