About Breast Lift Surgery
Sagging breasts are one of the most common effects of pregnancy and breastfeeding, in addition to being a natural result of gravity and aging. Fluctuations in weight only make the problem worse. If your breasts have begun to sag, a breast lift surgery is a great option to restore your youthful, feminine contour. A breast lift or mastopexy is designed to restore a shapely and perky bust. The ideal candidate for a breast lift alone is a patient who is happy with the size of her breasts in a bra, but is not happy with the overall shape due to the droopiness of the breast, the nipple, or both. Call Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Reston, VA to make an appointment with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons to learn more.
During the initial consultation and after a thorough exam, we will help determine if a breast lift is the right surgery for you. Ideal candidates for this operation are women who:
- Have realistic ideas about what breast lift surgery can do
- Have breasts that sag or need a better shape
- Have breasts that hang, are stretched out, or are asymmetrical
- Have nipples that point downward or rest underneath the breasts
- Have lost skin elasticity with weight loss, pregnancy, or age
- Understand there will be scars on the breast to achieve a breast lift
Breast Lift Reviews
"Dr. Weston performed my Mommy Makeover and I couldn't be more thrilled with the results! Three C-sections and a 70 pound weight loss left me feeling deflated, in more ways than one...I cannot get over how completely flat my stomach is and how great my breast lift looks--I feel like I'm 20 again! I have friends who've had the same procedure with nowhere near such a fabulous result...The office staff is very professional and personable, as well. All together, a great experience and can't say enough about the results!Mary M"- M.M. / Yelp / May 03, 2016
"I couldn't be happier with the whole team at Austin-Weston. Dr. Knotts is phenomenal!! He was honest and helpful in my initial consult, and was incredibly skilled at providing the best results with my surgery. I can't recommend him enough, or say enough glowing remarks about his professionalism and bedside manner- he's absolutely the best. I received a breast lift with implants, and liposuction on my abdomen - both turned out better than expected. I've received a number of compliments from friends and family on how natural it looks; and the healing process went fairly smooth. I now plan to return for all my less invasive needs as well. The entire staff is always so friendly and welcoming, and have never made me feel awkward during my consults or post-op visits. I couldn't have imagined a better experience."- H.N. / Yelp / Sep 17, 2017

"Dr. Weston is the best doc in the DMV area!! He listened to me, to my needs and wants, and he delivered!! I had a breast lift with augmentation. Excellent service and care. His partner called on me the next day to check up on me and how I was doing. The nurses were awesome as well and can not leave them out, along with the CRNA. Counting down the time for my upgrade hahaha."- J.P. / Google / Dec 15, 2015
What to Expect
Breast lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia and is considered an outpatient surgery. There will be many factors to discuss prior to the surgery, including where the incision will be placed. There are three commonly practiced incision points made in lift surgery:
- Anchor incision: final scar around the areola, vertically down the front of the breast and underneath the breast
- Lollipop incision: final scar around the areola and vertically down the front of the breast
- Circumareolar incision: final scar only around the areola
The incision usually chosen for breast lift is the anchor incision because it creates the best result. This procedure will produce surgery scars, but our plastic surgeons will do everything possible to make the scars less visible or easily concealed. We will also provide information on how to best care for your surgical incisions for more attractive results.
With breast lift surgery, individuals will see a lifted appearance of their breasts shortly after surgery but optimal results will be visible after the swelling subsides and the sutures relax. The lift is usually over tight initially with the expectation that it relaxes in the first several weeks.
The recovery will vary since many patients will have a breast lift in combination with another plastic surgery procedure such as a breast augmentation, breast reduction, or tummy tuck. For a lift alone, patients usually take off work for one week but only take pain medication for a couple of days.
Patients will be urged to do light activities such as slowly moving around the room, or spend a few minutes standing within the first 48 hours to stimulate blood circulation. There should be no heavy lifting or strenuous activity for the first week, and patients can restart their normal activities within 2 – 3 weeks. The breast will continue to age normally after a breast lift, but the procedure effectively resets the clock.
