Tummy Tuck - Northern Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC

The board certified plastic surgeons at The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery, serving Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC, perform the latest tummy tuck procedures, where incision lines are hidden along the natural folds of the skin at the bikini line resulting in a visibly attractive new waist line.

Following a tummy tuck procedure, loose fitting clothes become a thing of the past as your new body proportion makes it easier to buy the kind of clothes that flatter rather than hide your old body contour.

If you have experienced rapid weight loss from surgery or extensive dieting and exercise, you may find the area around your waist sagging with excess skin and fat deposits.

A tummy tuck can remove excess fat deposits around the waist area that can cause discomfort from irritated skin rubbing together or embarrassment from the loss of a natural contour.

Women that have gone through pregnancy often find their lower body area around the abdomen sagging from the weight of excess skin and fat they never fully lost following the pregnancy.

A Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty procedure may be your best option for restoring your body to a more balanced, well proportioned body contour.

Abdominoplasty surgery eliminates excess skin and fat around the stomach area as well as tightening the muscles.

Tummy Tuck Procedure

During a tummy tuck procedure, a horizontal incision is made from hip bone to hip bone and the plastic surgeon gently separates the skin from the abdominal wall. The muscles and soft tissue are tightened and the flap is closed and excess skin and fat are removed.

There are different variations of a tummy tuck, and your Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery board certified physician, serving Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC, will recommend a tummy tuck procedure specifically for you.

Tummy Tuck Recovery

A garment is applied following a tummy tuck surgery to help prevent swelling. Your plastic surgeon will likely prescribe antibiotics to avoid infection in addition to pain medication. Swelling, bruising and numbness are normal following a tummy tuck surgery, but should subside in a few weeks.

Tummy tuck patients should return to The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery, serving Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC, the following day for incisions to be checked.

After about a week, stitches are removed. Healing from a tummy tuck is slow since this is major surgery. Most patients return to normal activity within 4 weeks. The scar from a tummy tuck is permanent, but should fade in 6 to 9 months.

Liposuction or VASER® Lipo is sometimes combined with tummy tuck surgery to give patients a feminine or sculpted look.
