Facelift Procedures from Austin-Weston Center in Virginia & Washington DC

Visible signs of aging can be improved with facelift surgery. This surgery can be combined with other procedures to improve the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening muscles and redraping the skin of your face and neck. It cannot stop the aging process, but it can set back the clock. A face lift can make you look younger and fresher, and it may enhance your self confidence. Other procedures done in conjunction may include a forehead brow lift, eyelid surgery, neck lift surgery and nose reshaping. Your Austin-Weston Board-Certified Surgeon will recommend procedures to give you the results you desire.

Facelift Procedure: A facelift incision typically begins in the hairline at the temples and continues around the ear and ends in the lower scalp. Fat may be sculpted or redistributed from the face, jowls and neck, and the underlying tissue is repositioned. Skin is redraped over the uplifted contours and any excess skin is removed. A second incision under the chin may be necessary to further improve an aging neck. Sutures or skin adhesives close the incisions. A bandage is placed around your face to minimize swelling and bruising.
Facelift Recovery: Patients will return the next day for their first post-op visit. You will have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Patients are encouraged to follow their after-care instructions. It may take several months for swelling to fully dissipate and up to six months for incision lines to lighten. Once healed, the incision lines from a face lift are well concealed within the hairline and in the natural contours of the face and ear. Sun protection will help to maintain your rejuvenated appearance by minimizing photo-aging or sun damage. In addition, patients have the opportunity to visit our Medical Skincare Aesthetique to learn how they can enhance their results.

Mini Facelift

The mini facelift is similar to a traditional facelift in the way it targets similar areas of the face. The mini facelift focuses on specific problem areas of the face, neck, nose and area around the mouth.

Mini Facelift Procedure: Using smaller incisions the cosmetic surgeon gently lifts, repositions and removes excess fat deposits and skin in and around the face.

Mini Facelift Recovery: Patients will return the next day for their first post-op visit. You will have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Patients are encouraged to following their after-care instructions. Because the incisions are not as aggressive as a full Face Lift, the recovery process may be easier and take less time for the swelling to go down.

Sun protection will help to maintain your rejuvenated appearance by minimizing photo-aging or sun damage. In addition, patients have the opportunity to visit our medical skincare Aesthetique to learn how they can enhance their results.

Mid Facelift

Another option available to some patients is the mid facelift. Unlike a traditional facelift procedure that might target all areas of the face and neck the mid facelift procedure is designed to correct the area around the eyes and sagging cheekbones. It restores fullness to these areas and this makes the patient look younger. Because the mid-facelift procedure corrects some of the early signs of aging, we find it gives a rejuvenated appearance to somebody who has started the aging process but does not yet feel the need for a full facelift. This procedure is especially dramatic when combined with other procedures such as a brow lift and eyelid surgery. The combined procedures rejuvenate the cheekbone area and brighten the eyes. Many people in their late thirties to late forties can have marked improvement in their appearance with a procedure whose scars are all hidden in the hairline.

Mid Facelift Procedure: A small incision is made above the ear and the skin is elevated to the level of the cheekbone. Another incision is made either inside the mouth or in the lower eyelid (where a standard lower eyelid incision would be made). Sutures are used to grasp tissue so they can be elevated and fixed under the scalp incision. This restores the cheek tissues to a more youthful position. The scalp skin is then pulled in the same direction. This rejuvenates the area around the outer corner of the eye.

Mid Facelift Recovery: Most patients undergoing a mid-facelift require only a week off from work or other regular activities. There is usually minimal bruising associated, but some swelling may occur. Using ice for the first 24 to 48 hours can help control swelling. Patients are encouraged to follow their Austin-Weston Surgeon's after-care instructions. Patients return the next day for their first post-op visit. You will have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
