Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)
Otoplasty, ear surgery, is a surgical procedure performed on children and adults to re-contour or pin back protruding ears. Since ears are almost fully grown by the time a child is five years old, children can have ear surgery (otoplasty) performed at an early age.
Otoplasty, or ear surgery, is best for adults who may want to improve the shape, position or would consider ear pinning surgery to improve their appearance and profile.
Ear Surgery Procedures
Local or general anesthesia is administered during the otoplasty surgery. New techniques address two problems with the ears – the shell shape and the fold which can be sculpted or reshaped to create a more natural appearance. An Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery board certified plastic surgeon will consult and help you choose the best otoplasty procedure for you.
Ear Surgery Recovery
Post-operative bandages are applied to the head following otoplasty surgery and stitches are removed in one week. Children and adults recover form otoplasty surgery in about one week.
