Why Choose Our Practice
Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery, is a private group practice of four plastic surgeons and the biggest plastic surgery practice in the DC Metro area devoted to cosmetic surgery. The four doctors perform the latest cosmetic procedures and have over 60 combined years of experience. As a practice, Austin-Weston performs among the most facial plastic surgery as well as cosmetic breast and body surgery, such as augmentations, liposuction and tummy tucks, in the Washington DC and Northern Virginia regions. The practice is ranked as one of the top 50 in the United States for numbers of breast implants and injectables performed such as Botox and filler. Most patients find the practice by word-of-mouth from former patients. However you heard about us, we are glad you did. The secret is out as Austin-Weston has been voted Best Plastic Surgeons in DC, Best Plastic Surgeons in Northern Virginia (NoVA) and Best Plastic Surgeons in Virginia, this year alone.
When choosing a plastic surgeon or cosmetic surgeon, there are some basic questions you should research before making a consultation. One is to make sure the doctor is board certified in plastic surgery. Patients are often met with some confusion because some doctors falsely claim board certification. Doctors that claim false board certification have usually either lost prior board certification due to negligence or have taken shortcuts in their training and therefore cannot sit for a recognized board exam. There is one board for plastic surgeons, the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and this is the only board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). The AMBS is the same organization that certifies specialists like neurosurgeons and cardiologists. All four plastic surgeons at Austin-Weston are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Please note the following are NOT recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties:
In the United States, there are 3 entities that certify operating rooms for safety and cleanliness. These differ by whether the operating room is part of a hospital or a free standing clinic, and whether the facility is approved for insurance cases or just cosmetic cases. These 3 organizations are the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (AAASF) and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Making sure your surgeon operates an accredited facility is important for your own safety as it means the operating rooms are inspected regularly for safety and cleanliness. Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery is accredited by AAAHC.
Austin-Weston was founded in 1978 by Dr. Harvey Austin, who was joined in 1978 by Dr. Weston, followed by Dr. Sigal in 1994, Dr. Poindexter in 1998 and Dr. Knotts in 2013.
While most plastic surgeons perform some cosmetic surgery but also have a reconstructive surgery practice, the surgeons at Austin-Weston have chosen to focus all their attention and specialize in cosmetic surgery. This distinction of an entire practice committed to cosmetic plastic surgery has earned the doctors at Austin-Weston a national reputation as well as a Top 50 Plastic Surgery Practices in the United States designation. The cosmetic plastic surgeons at Austin-Weston are regular invitees to speak and lecture to other plastic surgeons about the techniques and experiences they have developed over many years in practice. The doctors have spoken across the country at meetings sponsored by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and even internationally, performing live cosmetic surgery procedures in Europe.
The reputable plastic surgeons at Austin-Weston are accompanied by a professional support staff of over 40 highly-trained and skilled individuals at their 11,000-sq-ft building, which includes 5 state-of-the-art operating rooms.
