Body Lift - Northern Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC

woman covering her body after adominoplasty surgery - body lift The board certified plastic surgeons at The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery, serving Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC areas perform body lifts.

An abdominoplasty, also known as a Body Lift with Flank Lift, can address the loose skin and excess fat on the abdomen, hips, thighs, and buttocks areas typical of the middle aged women. The fall or collapse of the outer hip, thigh, and buttocks areas of a woman’s body, along with the long term effects of gravity pulling excess fat deposits down around the body, can result in uneven body proportions.

For most women, particularly following pregnancies, excess skin stretched from the trauma of child birth and fat deposits that have caused the body to lose its tone and shapely appeal can result in a body contour that needs professional attention.

Diet and exercise programs may not be enough as some areas of the body are resistant to these types of programs. A body lift can address these problem areas by systematically removing excess skin and fat deposits around the lower torso area and gently lifting underlying tissue to create a dramatic change in a woman’s overall body contour.

Body Lift Surgery, is really an extension of an Abdominoplasty which extends all the way to your back.

Body Lift Procedure

A horizontal incision is made in the lower abdomen area and extends all the way around your back. The muscles and soft tissue are tightened and the flap is closed and excess skin and fat are removed. Patients may consider other procedures to be done at the same time including Liposuction or VASER® Lipo.

Body Lift Surgery Recovery

A garment is applied following the surgery to help prevent swelling. Your surgeon will likely prescribe antibiotics to avoid infection in addition to any pain medication. Swelling, bruising and numbness are normal after the surgery and will subside in a few weeks. Patients will return to the office the following day and incisions are checked. After about a week, stitches are removed. Healing from a body lift is slow since this is major surgery. Most patients return to normal activity within 4 weeks. The scar is permanent but will fade in 6 to 9 months.
