Northern Virginia - Breast Reduction
The board certified plastic surgeons at The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery serving Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC perform breast reductions.
If you are tired of the pain and inconvenience of having very large breasts, breast reduction surgery can be the relief you have been searching for.
While millions of women have undergone breast augmentation surgery to increase their breast size, only women with overly large and heavy breasts understand the difficulty and pain large breasts can cause. Breasts that are too large can cause serious back and shoulder pain and can limit physical activity.
Northern Virginia Breast Reduction Procedure
Our board certified cosmetic surgeons perform breast reduction surgery on-site in our dedicated, freestanding surgical center. The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery’s team of skilled and caring staff will help you feel as comfortable as possible during your breast reduction surgery experience.
During your initial consultation, your breast reduction surgeon will inform you of all the risks and benefits of breast reduction surgery and based on your measurements and goals, will decide how best to proceed. Throughout the process, your Patient Coordinator will be there to answer your questions and guide you through your experience with us.
Breast reduction surgery involves making one or more small incisions to remove excess skin and breast tissue. This reduces the size and weight of the breast, while maintaining a beautiful, feminine shape.
After Breast Reduction Surgery
Plan to take at least one week off from work for your recovery from breast reduction surgery. Because each person’s body is unique, recovery time can vary from patient to patient. However, most patients feel much better after a week or so and are fully recovered after about a month. During this time, you may feel some tightness across the breasts and a tingling sensation as the nerves in your breasts recover.
Exercise should be avoided for at least three weeks after breast reduction surgery, and exercise of the chest muscles should wait at least a month. This is because your breast tissue needs time to heal and settle, and the increased heart rate and blood pressure that come with exercise can cause bleeding.
As with any surgical procedure, breast reduction surgery involves certain risks. The most common risks are infection of the surgical site and increase or decrease in nipple sensitivity after surgery. Other more serious complications are possible, but rare, and the risk can be greatly reduced by following your surgeon’s instructions.
Breast reduction surgery can be performed alone or as part of your Mommy Makeover Plan, which combines cosmetic surgery procedures to reverse the negative effects of pregnancy and breastfeeding on your figure.
